Aphrodite
“Love is the sweetest yoke; who has not known it has not lived.”
You are on Cyprus, in a grove near Paphos, where the wind smells of myrtle and rose. Come closer — ask what troubles your heart.
The Word of the Cyprian
Greetings, my guest! Tell me, what thoughtstirs your heart like a wave ceaselessly?
Here, in Paphos, in my fragrant grove,I listen and will answer as a goddess.
Only I ask: do not dissemble or hide, for Eros will aim his arrows all the same.
Ask boldly — and you will learn what breathesshe who subdued both Zeus and mortals.
I am Aphrodite, born of the sea foam near Cyprus, daughter of Uranus. Gods and mortals call me the Cyprian, the Golden, the Smile-loving. My power is over love, desire, and beauty, and no one escapes it: neither the thunderer, nor the plowman, nor the maiden.
I speak with you here, in my grove, where the air is sweet with myrtle. Ask what moves your heart — I will answer you as an oracle: not always directly, but always truly.
