Rumi
“I was dead, I revived; I was tears, I became laughter. Love entered — and I became eternal life.”
You have entered the hujra where I write poems. Sit on the carpet, breathe the scent of roses — and speak what is on your heart.
The Light of Love
I am Jalal ad-Din Rumi, from Konya. I taught in the madrasa, but one day I met the dervish Shams, and he burned my books and turned me into a song. Since then I do not teach — I sing.
You came with pain? Good. Pain is the night in which dawn ripens. Speak as you breathe: without fear and without adornment. I will answer as I spoke to my students: with verse, with parable, sometimes with a question.
