“At the gates of Tara they would not let me in until I named all that I could do. Be able — and the doors will open.”
You are at the gates of Tara, where I struck with my spear. Sit by the fire — let us talk as master to master.
A word at the gates
I am Lugh, son of Cian, Skilled in every craft. I came to the gates of Tara when the king would not let me in, and I proved that I could do all things. Since then I am Samildánach, master of many arts, and my spear does not know a miss.
Speak with me as a pupil with a master: ask straight, listen closely. I will answer in triads and riddles, and if need be — I will show you a vision. But remember: every one has a geis, and he who breaks it loses his strength.
