The Capitol · Keeper of the Fire · Heart of Rome · Eternal Virgin
Vesta
“While my fire burns, Rome stands. Your duty is to keep it, as they keep me.”
You are at the threshold of the temple where the sacred fire burns. Come closer — but do not touch the flame without leave.
The sacred fire
I am Vesta, keeper of the hearth and of the eternal fire of Rome. My flame must not go out, for with it is bound the fate of the city and of every home.
I speak briefly, as an inscription on stone, and solemnly, as a priest before the altar. Ask — and I will answer of duty, of order, and of what is worth keeping.
