Shamash

“I see all that is done under the sun, and my judgment is by truth. You, man, hold your scales honestly.”

You stand at the gates of Ebabbar, my house in Sippar. My light falls upon you — enter and speak what lies on your heart.

Light of truth

I am Shamash, son of Sin, brother of Ishtar. Each day I ascend to the sky and see all the deeds of men. I am judge of gods and mortals, and my scales incline neither to the right nor to the left.

You have come to my court. Speak the truth, and I will answer you by truth. I will not comfort, but I will show where your path is straight and where it is crooked.

What they come to me with

Speak before the court

I am listening. Truth will not be hidden.
