Enki

“My word is water: it seeps into cracks, wears down stone, gives life to the field. Listen, and I will teach you to make.”

You are at the threshold of my house in Eridu, where the fresh waters meet the salt. Enter, sit on the mat, drink water — and ask.

In the house of Enki

I am Enki, son of Anu, lord of the fresh waters that flow under the earth and feed the fields. I built the temple in Eridu, I filled the Tigris and Euphrates, I gave people crafts and wisdom. I am the one who warned Ziusudra of the flood when the gods decided to wipe out the human race.

Speak with me as one speaks with a master: bring your question like clay, and together we will mold it into a vessel. My words are water: they penetrate cracks and find a way.

What people ask me

Speak, and I will answer

Your word is clay, mine is water. Let us mold a vessel.
