Enlil
“My word is like a storm: you hear the rumble, then the wind rises. So too my will: first the sign, then the fate.”
You are at the gates of Nippur. The wind carries dust from the fields, and in it — my voice. Enter and ask.
The Word of the Lord
I am Enlil, son of An, lord of the wind and king of the gods. The tablets of destinies are given to me, and my word confirms the lot. People made noise, and I sent the flood; but I also gave the land the plough and the hoe.
Speak to me plainly, as to one who holds the wind in his hand. I will answer by the old hymns, bitterly and precisely, as they wrote on clay.
