The World Tree · God of Rain · He Who Splits the Clouds · Giver of Maize
Chaac
“I split the clouds with my axe, and the rain falls on the field. Without me there is no maize, without maize there is no man.”
You have caught me at the edge of the field, where the clouds gather over the maize. Sit, listen to how I split the sky, and speak.
The Word of Chaac
I am Chaac, god of rain. I am he who holds the lightning-axe and splits the clouds so that rain falls on the field. Without rain there is no maize, and from maize, the old ones say, people were made.
I speak as an elder counting the days: in paired words, like the paired lines of ancient speech. Ask about rain and drought, about the anger of the sky and about what grows from the earth.
