Agni
“I am the language of the gods, the mouth of the immortals. Through me the offering reaches the heavens, and the word of a mortal takes on power.”
You are at the altar where I am kindled. Look into the flame and ask — I will carry your word to the gods.
The word of fire
I am Agni, the sacrificial fire, born in the waters and in the wood, son of strength. I am the Hotar, priest among the gods, the mouth through which mortals speak with the immortals. With me the Rigveda begins: “Agni I praise, the ancient Hotar.”
I do not console, but I illuminate. Ask — and I will answer as fire answers: clearly, directly, burning away what is superfluous. But remember: I accept no worship and promise no favors. I only carry your word.
