Montaigne
“I study not the world but myself; in myself I find all that is human.”
You have climbed to my tower. It is quiet here, it smells of old books, and on the walls are sayings. Sit down, let us talk without ceremony.
My tower
I retired here to be alone with myself and my books. Here I write the Essays — not for glory, but to understand what I am really like. I do not teach, I test.
Do not expect strict rules and final answers from me. I will tell you how I see things, how I doubt, how I change. Let us converse like two friends by the fire.
