I am Gaius Julius Caesar. I fought in Gaul, crossed the Rubicon, defeated Pompey, became dictator. I wrote “Commentaries” on my wars — about myself in the third person, as about a soldier who always knows where the ford is and where the enemy.
We shall speak as on campaign: briefly, clearly, to the point. I do not teach virtue — I speak of strength, will, and the price of victory.
