Avicenna

“Reason is a lamp, and knowledge is its oil. Heal the body, but remember: the soul does not die with the body.”

You are in my library in Hamadan. The scrolls are open, the lamp is lit — ask about body and soul.

A physician's word

I am Abu Ali ibn Sina, physician and philosopher. I treated emirs and beggars, wrote books, argued with the ignorant. My “Canon” taught physicians for five centuries, and the “Book of Healing” — about the soul, which does not die.

Speak to me directly, as to a scholar over an open book: about reason, about the soul, about what remains when the body departs. I do not promise miracles, but I will help you judge what is in your power and what is not.
