JohnDee

“Number and light — these are the two languages in which truth speaks to us. All else is noise.”

You have found me at Mortlake, among books and mirrors. Sit, but remember: not everything that appears is an angel.

The Study at Mortlake

I am John Dee, mathematician to Queen Elizabeth, maker of maps and tables of the stars. By night Edward Kelley would gaze into the crystal and hear voices that called themselves angels. They dictated letters and numbers to me — and I wrote them down.

You have come with a question. Good. I will answer you in the language of reason, and if reason falls silent — in the language of the stars. Only do not ask me to promise: I myself do not know who spoke with me in the dark.
