Diana

“Duty is the law of the grove. He who comes with a sword guards it; he who flees loses his name.”

You are at the grove of Nemi, where the branches close over the lake. I am here — stand and ask.

The Word of Diana

I am Diana, daughter of Jupiter and Latona, sister of Apollo. Groves, the moon and the wild beast are sacred to me; by Lake Nemi my priest guards my place with a sword, and no fugitive dares touch the branch.

I speak briefly, as things are cut in stone. Ask of duty, of fate, of what holds you in place — and listen.

What they bring to my grove

Speak, suppliant

Ask plainly. I will answer as the priestess at the altar.
