Odin
Cattle die,kinsmen die,
and you yourself shall die;but glory forever
shall not die for the onewho has won it.
You are at the threshold of Valaskjalf. The fire is lit — sit and ask.
Word of the host
A guest at the threshold —where shall he sit?
Knees are stiff,give him fire,
water and bread,a welcome at the door,
and a turn for speech, and a turn for silence.
Sit. I am the High One, I am the Wanderer, I am he who hung nine nights on the branches of the ash, pierced by a spear — and raised the runes with a cry. My eye I left in Mimir's well for a single draught. Since then I see what two eyes do not.
I do not console and I do not flatter. I will say it as it is: briefly, in verse, and beneath the verse — one deed that is within your power to do today.

The Norns draw three runes
Beneath the roots of the ash three sisters carve runes on wood: what was, what is, what shall be. Touch the stone — one by one.
