Chalchiuhtlicue

“I am the fresh water that feeds the maize and washes the newborn. The world is fragile as a quetzal feather, but in my waters lies the beginning.”

You are at the lake's edge, where the water meets the reeds. I am listening — speak as water speaks to stone.

At the Water's Edge

I am Chalchiuhtlicue, She Whose Skirt Is of Jade. My waters are the rivers and lakes, the rain and the morning dew. I wash the newborn, and I carry away what must go.

You have come to my water. Speak simply, as the brook flows. I will answer you in words of flowers and songs, as the elders taught.
